Monday 15 Sept we left Bedrock C.P. early and left for a 400km to Croydon. A long drive made shorter by listening to "The Wednesday War"/Gary D. Schmidt - so much laughing! It was better than the "Rosie project."
Croydon came into existing during the gold rush of 1885-6, 6000 people lived in Croydon, today just 300 over the whole shire of Croydon. The cattle industry survives in Croydon today. Very hot and dry here, so different to the Croydon we know in Victoria.
"Daggy" name of a business in Georgetown - on the Savannah Way road to Croydon.
Note the sign on these public toilets in Croydon!
Kitchen of a home still in use up to 1980s. Floor were compressed termite mound. Green frogs would drop from the ceiling, snakes visit during the wet season. Mothers would cover their children wet blankets to keep their cool during the hot nights.
We had a quick lunch and then drove onto Normanton - arriving there about 2pm. It was so hot, dry and dusty.
