Birdsville Track and Mungerannie Hotel

Tuesday (30 September) we left Birdsville and tackled the Birdsville Track, full fuel tank and car all packed we left about 8.30am.

This is the caravan park we stayed at,  all sand!

Our car ready for the track

This is the Burke & Wills tree just outside Birdsville.

Beginning of track

The day we decided to tackle the track the wind picked up and blew the sand.

Visibility was difficult, corrugations we not as bad as the ones in Cape York.

Note the vegetation

After driving for about 4 hours we arrived at Mungerannie Hotel, decided to buy lunch and stay the night in a cabin (tent free for one night!!)

This is the sunset from the car park.

Neil outside our room

The ceiling of the pub!

Phil - owner of the pub - bush character but such a wonderful person.

Phil and his assistant - these people were so friendly and accommodating.  We enjoyed a delicious dinner that night.

This pub has been here since the 1800.  We left the next morning about 9am

Some of the old blitz cars out front from the pub.

Note the vegetation - these cattle actually had something to eat.

Neil with the old punt that was used when the Cooper creek flooded.
We encountered lots of lizards on this track,  just casually crossing the track or sunning themselves, thankfully we did not hit any.

Road train approaching, note the dust!

We arrived at Marree and had lunch at the pub.

Lunch room - we actually had dinner here two years ago at this actual table.
